By Train

Windermere rail station is approximately 3 miles from High Fold Guest house at Troutbeck. It has connections to Manchester airport and the main Virgin West Coast line from London to Glasgow via Oxenholme. Taxis are available at Windermere station.


Alternative routes by road

From M6 North Leave the M6 at junction 38 and take the A685 to Kendal. On entering Kendal follow the signs for Windermere (A6/A5284 then A591 for approximately 16 miles).

From M6 South Leave the M6 at junction 36 and follow the signs for Western Lakes/Windermere (A590 then A591 for approx 16 miles).

On entering Windermere (The Windermere Hotel is on your right) keep straight on for Ambleside. After approx ½ mile turn right at the mini-roundabout (signed Kirkstone Pass/Ullswater A592).

After approx 2 miles turn left (signed Troutbeck) - beware this is an acute turn. Proceed up the hill and turn right at the top, passing a telephone box on the left……**

From Ambleside (A591). Proceed on the A591 towards Windermere. After approximately 1 mile turn left at the sign for Troutbeck. Travel for approximately 2 miles to Troutbeck, passing the Post Office and a telephone box on the left……….. **

From Troutbeck Bridge (A591). Take the road signed for Troutbeck for approximately 1½ miles turn right at the junction (signed Kirkstone) and proceed to Troutbeck passing the Post Office and a telephone box on the left………... **

From the North via Ullswater and the Kirkstone pass (A592). After coming over Kirkstone Pass proceed to Troutbeck passing the Queens Head Hotel on the right and then Limefitt caravan Park on the left. Turn right immediately after Jesus Church (this road is not signed). Proceed up the hill and turn right at the top, passing a telephone box on the left……..**

** ………….. After approximately 100 metres look for two white cottages - one on the left and one on the right - marking the entrance to our forecourt. Turn right and High Fold Guest House is the building immediately ahead of you.
